The African Savanna

The Serengeti Plains

The Serengeti is one of the most famous parts of the African savanna, found mainly in northern Tanzania and stretching into Kenya. It is a huge area of open grassland with a few scattered trees, making it easy to see wildlife across the horizon. The Serengeti is well known for its natural beauty and wide, open skies that seem endless. Visitors often explore places like Serengeti National Park or the Ngorongoro Crater, which is nearby and just as breathtaking. These landmarks help show why the Serengeti is one of the best-known and most celebrated landscapes in the world.

What really makes the savanna exciting, though, are the animals that live there. Every year, millions of wildebeest and zebras take part in the Great Migration, one of the largest movements of animals on Earth. Tourists also come to see lions, elephants, giraffes, and cheetahs roaming freely in their natural home. Hippos gather in rivers, while colorful birds fly overhead, adding even more life to the scenery. The chance to see so many animals up close, especially in a place as stunning as the Serengeti, makes the savanna a destination many people dream of visiting at least once.
